Happy Mardi Gras!

21 Feb

We spent the weekend in Louisiana with some of our favorite people.Crystal, my college roommate, and her husband came to town from Houston. We’ve talked and talked about this weekend happening for years. We attended the Hammond parade, an annual family tradition, on Friday night. Our plans Saturday were altered by torrential rainfall. We slept in, ate Uncle Ronnie’s gourmet omelets, and stayed dry in antique stores. For lunch, we went to Zea’s Rotisserie. I ordered my usual..half rack of Thai-rub ribs,  roasted corn grits, and red beans and rice. Yummmm. My mouth is watering.

We fought with blood, sweat, and tears for all that loot. 95% of it not even pictured. Becca caught a fuzzy diary. Light up swords and goofy hats are always a hit. Mardi Gras truly is a spectacle that everyone should be required to experience.

Maroon 5 acted as the Grand Marshall of Endymion. Sadly, my man Adam didn’t throw me any doubloons or granny panties, all items in high demand at Mardi Gras. Honestly, we didn’t even see him on the float. Rumor has it he wasn’t there. So, my only claim is that I made eye contact and screamed at someone special who probably sells Maroon 5 merchandise or schedules their events.

On Sunday, my family came to Hammond and we were lucky enough to eat Uncle Ronnie’s delicious gumbo. Thank you so much Aunt Beth, Uncle Ronnie, and Becca for your hospitality!

We filled so many bags that I could proudly throw my own parade tonight. Instead, Dalaney and I are going to celebrate with my favorite,  jambalaya at Oby’s.  Yay for Cajun food, a reoccurring theme throughout this post 🙂
